Regarded as a very strong BSD breed, FreeBSD has been able to contribute to the betterment of other BSD and Unix-like systems, such as Linux, OpenBSD and NetBSD. By leveraging it’s popularity it has ported thousands of applications to run natively and shown the way for other distributions. In this last year MacOS X was released with several FreeBSD components built in. Now these two platforms hope to work closely to assisted eachother in improving and innovating in much the say way FreeBSD has benefitted from a close relationship with OpenBSD and NetBSD.
